about/collection/projects/relating
that_carpet is a studio for more-than-human making.
we explore pratices of making that transcend the individual human as the artist or designer.
we collect artifacts of more-than-human making or collaborate with other processes in their creation.
we preserve them and render them accessible to a larger audience.
note: more-than-human making means that our work is not produced by a single individual with a great idea (an “artist”).
instead it emerges from a whole range of processes that cannot be considered to be uniquely human.
we recognize that the world is alive, making and unmaking at every moment.
it continually produces far greater works than we could imagine.
often we miss this work because our ideas of what is art (worth looking at) and what not are so narrow.
we are learning to sharpen our sensibilities and we want to create situations in which other people can do so, too.
this is a crisis of sensibility.
we believe that the intersecting crises (social, ecological, spiritual) we face, are rooted in a loss of sensibility.
we have forgotten that our world is alive and have become blind to the tremendous creative potential that more-than-human processes hold.
we want to reinvigorate this sensibility by allowing people to enter into experience with what is usually considered to be dead matter.

flow bene rittger are a heterogenous collective of organisms and procceses, (a) queer maker(s), and founder(s) of thatcarpet studio.
their works feed on the leakage from imagined separations: articifcial/natural, human/non-human,
they thrive in the toxic juices of post-capitalist landsapes
resist a separation between humans and nature, genders
